Rare Vintage Desert Teardrop For Sale

Teardrop

The lovely Teardrop

Rare Vintage 1947 Desert Teardrop SOLD

Garage kept / Stout, but light / Solid undercarriage/ Custom hitch / Custom full size wheels-tires / sleeps 2 adult – 1 child.

Purchased, 1975, in Anchorage, Alaska. I towed it from Anchorage with my 1965 Toyota Lancruiser to Tok Junction. Camping along the way into Yukon Territory, down the Alcan Highway, Whitehorse, Prince George and Vancouver, British Columbia.

From Vancouver to Seattle and to a rodeo in Missoula, Montana. The rodeo staff assumed I was with the rodeo due to the Alaska license, two husky dogs, a vintage trunk adorned with Elk antlers, military water – gas can and the Desert Teardrop.

Crossing the Rocky Mountain again for the third time into Butte, Boseman, Yellow Stone, Buffalo, St. Louis, Louisville and to my home, Parrott, Virginia.

The Teardrop has been stored for 40 years except for a 5 week trip to Maine in 2001, 3 week trip Key West in 2009 and occasional weekend trips around Virginia.

With the advent of the World Wide Web in 1994, and realizing this unique sleeper-kitchen was unique and historical, I searched the internet and discovered it’s brand, origin and history. It was likely manufactured in California in the 1940’s, soon after World War II when metals were not so scarce.

SOLD: March 28, 2015 to a couple in Tennessee.

I had the honor of caring for this work of art and engineering for 40 years. Truely, a rare piece of history.
